The Iowa Association of School Librarians has added the Goldfinch Award as an award given by PreK-3rd grade students
in the state of Iowa. In the past the Iowa Children¹s Choice Award, Iowa Teen Award, and Iowa High School Book Award
have been very popular. This award extends what is already being done by the IASL to encourage children to read more quality
books, provide a positive dialogue about books, and give recognition to those who write books for children.
To
be eligible to vote students in the participating grades must read or have read to them five books off the list.
Books
are added to the list from student nominations and reviewed by Goldfinch Award committee members.
This is a great
opportunity to promote more quality books to children in Iowa and hopefully many libraries take advantage
of this program
and participate.

INFORMATION
Voting Regulations
1. Students must read at least five titles to be eligible to vote. It is acceptable for
students to read these themselves or have heard them read aloud.
2. Students may vote for only one title and may not vote for any title
they have not read or heard read.
3. Voting will be conducted on ballots produced by each attendance center. A sample
will be available closer to the date to use as an option, but is not required.
The voting deadline will be in the spring at the
same time as the other Iowa Awards. Voting may be tabulated online through the ICCA website.
